Today was another busy day..Nowadays I am sleeping very late around 2 AM. As an adult requires a sleeping period of 7 -8 hrs, I try not to wake up before 9AM
Managed to give a positive demonstration of a DQ system in progress at work today . Did a bit of shopping at TESCO.
I usually listen to BBC Radio 4 when I am driving and listened to an interesting debate about climate change and carbon emission which is a hot topic here.
Here people are willing to pay extra money to buy Free Range, Organic & Fair Trade Goods . I think these are brain children of some really intelligent marketing guys.
Let me brief what are these first .
Free range - A method of animal husbandry where the animals are permitted to live freely instead of being kept in a locked cage / house. Free Range products in the market are Free Range Eggs, Chicken , Milk etc. Some of my colleagues say they taste much better though I haven’t managed to find the difference. The logic being when a hen roams freely and not locked up ..they seem to have less tension and hence lays tastier eggs.
Organic - Organic crops are the ones which produced without using pesticides / artificial fertilizers / human wastes. If animals / birds they are the ones which are not given antibiotics or growth hormones.
Fair trade - These products promotes the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production.
For all the above three categories, customers pays more than regular goods..
I went away from the topic.. In the debate a lady was saying.. People wants free range & organic products nowadays … which leads to less production per area because the poultry / farms need more space for free range production. But the demand has not reduced. Hence the only way to cover the demand is to increase the cultivation area..
From where can they get land for more cultivation . It can be only done by destroying forests.. Deforestation !!
This will lead into more issues with Climate Change & Carbon Emission !!! Are people thinking enough .. Are they being sincerely environment friendly ??
